Perhaps one of the pillar-most stories of describing an event of extremism, is the story of a group of people that believed in their true one-that-should-be-worshipped, and were persecuted because of it. Popular sources on the Internet today may describe a story that began with a boy that presented certain abilities the result of belief, instead of what may be briefly translated as witchcraft, a development which angered the an old magician in cahoots with whomever presided over the populace of the place and time.
Today's story pretty much says that those that refused to renounce their faith in their worthy choice of worship, were marched to a ditch under the purview direction of the ruler, and had destructions placed upon them.

As'hab Al'ukhduwd: a transliteration; an apostrophe is placed after 'As' in Ashab, and 'Al' and before Ukhduwd, simply for translirating purposes, so that the usual sh sound is preemptied in the first, and to reference there is a lower case letter then immediately after an uppercase, so as not to be confused with the letter I/i. In Arabic, typically, al, refers to a more specific entity, so, People, companions, or collective group, of the Ditch, not just a ditch.
