In the aftermath of the siege in Kenya yesterday, presented is whether the world is witnessing a 'belt of violence', a zone, a geographical area, that can be circumscribed, meaning to draw a circle around, in Africa?
The region of his belt is in the sub-Saharan region spanning from Somalia to Nigeria.
Here are some of the crises in the region so far this year that have occurred and, or currently exist:
- The siege of the Westgate Mall in Kenya
- A group having to do with Mogadishu in Somalia is reported to be involved with the responsiblity of the Westgate mall siege
- A massacre in Nigeria in the last couple of weeks
- The Cameroon has been affected by the tension in the regions directly to the east of the country
- The violence in Rwanda
