Navy Yard Shootings: Facility Safety Concerns

In Washington DC this morning, marked events of a shooting started to unfold at about 8am or a few minutes to a half hour thereafter, at the Navy Yard.
As of about 11am today, there are varied reports as to casualties.
For more information tune in to televised news, Internet and radio reports, that have correspondents at or near the scene.

Already, thoughts of the Fort Hood shooting that occurred in Texas are evoked, is there a tie, and, or common denominators, in terms of the mindset of those that might have, or had, the tendency to engage in a rampage mannered shooting, from, or in Texas?
The importance of safeguarding ID cards, and using them properly, comes up.
Are there further steps to make facilities more secure?
Does the subject fully read a born-in, lifelong resident native of Fort Worth?

- Footage of what was seen of helicopters at the rooftops are existent, evident by their own fact
- The exact status as to whether or not there are still any more gunmen at large, and if there are, how many, is a question that awaits answers

- Suspect that has been identified, is Aaron Alexis, said to be 34 years old, and from Fort Worth, Texas. Update as of 7:15pm 9/16/2013, suspect might have lived in other locations, and Fort Worth might be included in this list; exact residential official history, precluding any further posting here, will await more comprehensive information releases. U.S. states in the upper Mid-Atlantic region, and the upper coastal region in the western area, might be locations that the suspect has been.
Update 9/16/2013 7:30pm: News releases before further news with confirmation and verification, the source <http://abcnews.go.com/US/washington-dc-navy-yard-shooter-aaron-alexis-navy/story?id=20273287> says the suspect was born in Queens, NY. There are reports of the suspect having employment involvement with the Navy. - Fraudulent use of identification is reported to have been involved, enabling the suspect to gain entry onto the site

- There might be an additional suspect, a second person in addition to the suspect named above, that is still at large, a subject-of-interest sought by authorities

- varied reports as to the number of casualties, who the casualties were, just how many attackers were either killed or killed themselves, and whether or not the attackers breached security and succeeded in gaining entrance into the building portions of the Consulate, and if they did, to what extent and how far inside the attackers made it inside
- note: due to time zone differences, the time where the Consulate is, is ahead of the time here in the U.S., therefore, the violence that erupted might have been Friday in Herat, and reports of it in the U.S. came in as soon as Thursday night

CHESAPEAKE -- Nightingale was called to Naval Support Activity Northwest Annex in Chesapeake Friday following an accidental shooting.
