Stories range from there has been a confirmation of crash into the sea, to possibilities of disintegration into the air.

Comments:
Even complete disintegration rarely results in actually complete disintegration in terms of there being something, even the tiniest particle floating in space in contrast to what was not there before the disintegration.  With the help of advanced science, eventually, what transpired will probably be found.

Over the course of thousands of years, perhaps having to do with the imperfection of a total roundness of the earth, meaning the earth is not always taken by some scientists to be in a perfect sphere, in some zones, how time elapses might have slight inconsistencies in comparison to, say the western world and hemisphere.

Key word here might be fusion, a fusion of visibility with a sudden jolt, even if ever so subtle, resulting from encroaching thresholds of certain Coriolis-like zones, which may have taken the plane off the usual course.

It might be possible, that if the airplane is somewhere on the ground, on a mountain side, or in the water, that the radius which it is in might be further out from what is within normal expectation.
