Amount of Gun Ammo Involved in Crime in Chicago Alarming

Just how did 2500 persons get shot in just Chicago the first 8 months in 2016?
There is someone or something or things that have their hand wrapped around the trigger of about a dozen firearms in seemingly separate locations discharging respective firearms and shooting someone about everyday in Chicago so far this year as crude estimate for the gist.
Who are they, and how did this come to be, in the geographic confines of the city?
Where is the all the ammo coming from?
How did it get there?

These are just a few questions that are food for thought in the quest to bring about a more peaceful Chicago, Illionois.
