Gone Amiss in Nevada: Shootings and Violence

There have been a couple of shootings and, or acts of violence in Nevada that have taken place in the past few days which have gained national headlines, but it has been hard to tell what the reasons were for that level of media attention, aside from the fact itself of gaining the attention, which could bring clue.
What the exact details are of everything in the aftermath of the events, will be posted within the next 24hours, as appropriate, of the information obtained. The events seem to be unraveling in a manner that even though announcements of everything being under control might be getting made, not everything is under control, and the full scope of the damage not ascertainable for this story as of yet.
As of Monday October 21, 2013, 5pm EST, there appears to be at least one fatality in locations far enough distinguished from each other that they are being considered two locations.

School shooting
At the school in in Sparks, near Reno, Nevada, there was a set of boys evidently involved in the incident, meaning shooter and victims, all aged 12, and a teacher, a former Marine. 2 boys were wounded by the 12 year old with the 9mm Ruger he is reported to have borrowed from his parents. The teacher was fatally shot. The shooter then turned the gun on himself, fatality the result.
Be aware that as of this update, different news websites are still saying different things, such as with regard to how the boy with the gun died.
Once again, the incident started early in the morning, just before students were settled in to start classes. Reports are the boy shot victims in different locations of the school starting with including the gym/basketball court.
All the details still have some dimensions of being murky; one boy was shot in the stomach, a news report says, it is not clear who, respective the 2 twelve year old initial victims.

Monday morning, between 5:30 and 6 thereabout, a carryover from Sunday night as weekend party-goers might see it, in an area of Las Vegas popular for nightclubs, a middle aged man whose identity has been identified, shot and killed a person, the end result of the melee was two people in addition to that were wounded, and the shooter treated for head injuries after being subdued.
