Virtually No Statistics Might Form Hideaway for Crime

January 1, 2015
What is going on in the Cocos Islands right now, in terms of the rest of the civilized world that has laws that are reasonably respected by everyone else with civilized laws?

With very few popularly known in English written sources to virtually no statics on websites currently, it might be tough to tell.

Knowing what is going on always helps, especially if persons from other places are over there.

What kinds of crimes might be discussed here: huge complex child porn activities, 'child porn rings', kidnappings, human trafficking, especially of preteens and minors, general exploitation of migration laws, and of course theft and driving violations.

Reasonably respected laws can refer to for example, age of consent laws; the age of consent before pre-school does not make much sense today in context.  There is a reference to, eluding such laws either because of laxity or they do not exist at all, in certain regions.

Hopefully, reality does not have it that crime-havens is widespread.

The islands deserve the status of a coveted place for vacations, tourism, and living.

A few pieces of information from Wikipedia:
The territory consists ... of which two, West Island and Home Island, are inhabited with a total population of approximately 600.

[HCN notes: are these statistics official, as in are there more people over there not accounted for?]

"The Territory of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, also called Cocos Islands and Keeling Islands, is a territory of Australia, located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Christmas Island and approximately midway between Australia and Sri Lanka.

The territory consists of two atolls and 27 coral islands, of which two, West Island and Home Island, are inhabited with a total population of approximately 600."

"Home Island, also known locally as Pulu Selma, is one of only two permanently inhabited islands of the 26 islands of the Southern Atoll of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, an Australian Overseas Territory in the central-eastern Indian Ocean. It is 95 hectares (230 acres) in area and contains the largest settlement of the territory, Bantam, with a population of about 500 Cocos Malay people."
